The Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) has extended the deadline for transferring parking credit balances from the MBJBSpot app to the new Parkmax@Johor app until December 31, 2023. This extension aims to provide users with more time to adapt to the new digital parking system, which is being rolled out across Johor. The mayor, Datuk Mohd Haffiz Ahmad, emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth transition for all users, stating, 'We want to ensure that no user is left behind during the transition to the new system.'
The Parkmax@Johor app, introduced in May, is already being used by six local councils in Johor for public street parking. With over 400,000 users on the MBJBSpot app and 695,677 registered users on Parkmax@Johor, the migration process is crucial for the council's efforts to integrate parking services under a single platform. Initially, the transition drew criticism from motorists who felt the period was too short and had concerns about unused MBJBSpot credit balances. However, the council addressed these issues by clarifying that users could transfer their remaining credits to the new platform.
Despite some initial hiccups, the experience for those who have switched to Parkmax@Johor has been generally positive. Student Stassie Lee encountered technical issues during the migration process, but the app's hotline provided assistance. Nurse L. Prema, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction with the app's ease of use and suggested future updates could include an auto-deduction feature or reminders for parking payments. Clerk Azri Azman found the transition satisfactory, but he also emphasized the importance of disseminating information through various channels to ensure everyone is informed about the migration process.
The extension of the deadline is a strategic move by MBJB to facilitate a smoother transition for users. By providing more time, the council aims to minimize disruptions and ensure that all parking credit balances are transferred accurately.
